I went to my doctor recently for my A Food Pyramid Diagram is Still the Best Way to Get Proper Nutrition

I went to my doctor recently for my annual check-up, and everything was fine. He told me that what impressed him the most was that I was not lacking in any vitamins or nutrients, because he knew that I do not take any kind of multivitamin at all. He asked me what my secret was, and I told him that there was no secret, and that I simply followed a food pyramid diagram to the letter.

My first encounter with a food pyramid diagram came when I was about eight years old. I was sitting in my third-grade health class, and our teacher pulled out the diagram and taped it to the chalkboard and began to explain what it meant.

She told us that the bulk of our calories each day should come from the breads and grains group, which was six to 11 servings every day. She told was what sorts of things constituted breads and grains, and said this was where most of our energy came from.

Then she moved up the diagram to show us the fruits and vegetable groups and encouraged us to try to eat at least six to eight servings combined per day of fruits and vegetables, saying that the calories from this group were negligible, but the nutritional value was extremely high.

She then pointed out the meats group and the dairy group on the food pyramid diagram, and explained to us that while those groups of foods were certainly important for us, we did not want to eat those in too large a quantity, because they could be very fattening and make us gain weight.

At the very top of the diagram was the oils, fats and sweets group, which she told us we really wanted to limit each day, because if they were not eaten in moderation, they could cause us numerous health problems in the future.

Being the diligent student that I was at the time, I asked where I could get a copy of the food pyramid diagram, and she was kind enough to give me one. I took it home and memorized it and started making sure that I was getting exactly what I was supposed to get each day.

Whether it is subconscious or not, that trend has continued throughout my entire life. I have always made sure that I am getting a balanced diet with each of the food groups represented in their proper proportion. Even when the latest news revealed that eating more or less of a certain kind of food was better for you, I would still follow my own plan.

The food pyramid diagram has always been the best way for me to determine what I need in terms of nutrition, and I will always use it as a guide for that purpose.
Foods With Vitamin D Are More Important Than Ever

Studies in recent years have shown the importance of vitamin D to calcium absorption and strong bones, so now more than ever, it is very important to be familiar with and to eat plenty of foods with vitamin D in them.

When we were children, we would spend hours outside and get most of the vitamin D we needed from the sun. That has all changed now that we know exposure to ultraviolet rays for extended periods can cause all kinds of skin problems, including cancer.

One of the foods with vitamin D that is the most abundant and easy to find is fish. It can really be any kind of fish, as well, from catfish to cod to herring to salmon, and they are all great sources of vitamin D that can be found at pretty much any major supermarket.

Along those lines, such things as mollusks and oysters are also foods with vitamin D that, although not as easy to find, can typically be found at most seafood restaurants, and they provide an excellent source of the vitamin.

One of the things that most people tell me when I mention these various types of fish and seafood is that they do not like fish. That is perfectly all right as well, because I know that not everybody is a fish person, and some people are actually allergic.

What I recommend in that case is soy milk, which is loaded with vitamin D and actually tastes pretty good, too. If soy milk is too much, just drink regular milk, which is also a good source of the vitamin and is also readily available.

Another beverage that is a good source of vitamin D is orange juice. Besides tasking great and providing a good source of vitamin D, it also provides a large proportion of your daily requirement for vitamin C and is loaded with other vitamins and nutrients.

Getting back to foods with vitamin D, oatmeal is typically a great source of the vitamin and is a great meal to have for breakfast. Oatmeal is usually a great source of fiber, and is one of those breakfasts that sticks with you throughout the day and is not a significant source of sugar or high in calories. Another big plus for oatmeal is that it is not an expensive breakfast option.

There are plenty of good tasting foods with vitamin D that are readily accessible at your local grocery store. As nutritionists continue to uncover the the importance of the vitamin and the role it plays in maintaining proper health, we should all look to include those types of foods in our daily diet when possible.

Football weight training for those who haven't made the team yet

If you're an aspiring footballer, still young and growing, and you love those linemen positions, guard, tackle, center, end, and the personal challenge of holding a a piece of ground or crashing through a mass of meaty, growling guys intent on stopping you in your tracks, but you just don't have the weight and strength to compete at this point on a junior varsity or varsity team, there's still hope. If you're fast, have endurance and stamina, not much at catching a football, but you can run into a wall of guys crouched to catch and throw you on the ground, you're probably the right man to play fullback, but if you're thin and not at your peak strength, you'll need to put on weight, not fat, but thick, firm muscle. If you're one of these guys, what you need is a regimen of football weight training.

Performing the proper weight training can increase both muscle bulk and muscle strength, fairly quickly and, if you do it regularly, to lasting affect. Football weight training is generally part of your daily football practice if you're already on a team, but here we're talking to those boys who haven't made it on the team yet and want to know what they can do to get on one when tryouts come up in the Fall. You've got more than enough time to put on that weight and increase your strength if you start a football weight training program now. Even if you wait until the summer, three months will be enough time to build up your muscles and strength in time for tryouts in September. Less than three months will not do.

Your objectives in football weight training are quiet clear. You're after strength and bulk, not definition. That means lifting increasingly heavier weights. If you work with light weights only, you'll get some bulk, not much, but your muscles will become clearly defined. That's nice for the beach, but not for the football field. Here's what you need to do. Start the first week lifting as many pounds as you can, doing a repetition of ten lifts. You have to get the repetitions in, so don't lift too much so that you tire before the ten. Do bench presses, squats (using heavier weights than for arm, chest, and shoulder development, since your legs are always stronger than the rest), tip-toe lifts for the calves, and side lifts. Do your curls with the same amount of weight you do your over-head lifts and front, crouch to chest, lifts. You can do bench presses with weight heavier than you use for arm work. The next week, add two to two and a half pounds more. The third week, add another two pounds, and on the fourth week, don't add any new weight. Then, on the first week of the second month of your football weight training program, add two and a half pounds again and work with that for the rest of the week. Do exactly what you did the previous month, increasing weight each week. At some point, you're going to find that you're not able to make it through all the repetitions. That's when you stop adding weight. Continue to work with the same weight until the repetitions become easier. Then start adding weights again.

Football weight training can be very grueling work. You're breaking down muscle so that it will heal and become stronger. You're going to hurt. Take steam baths, get massages, and be certain not to strain yourself to the point you cannot continue your training. Keep working at it, and when the Fall comes, you'll be sporting some tough, fleshy muscle that will be sure to put you on the starting line-up and on your way to football glory. Remember, it doesn't work until it hurts, but also, don't strain yourself.

Is Your Baby Bedroom Safe?

Planning your baby bedroom is about more than coming up with a design idea, buying what Is Your Baby Bedroom Safe?

Planning your baby bedroom is about more than coming up with a design idea, buying what you like, and putting it all together. That is the fun part that most parents look forward to, but don't forget about the other part of the equation. The room can look really good but can still be dangerous for your baby. There are small things to look for and small adjustments to make so that you can be sure your baby is safe in his or her bedroom as an infant, toddler, and preschooler.

The first thing to think about in your baby bedroom is how sturdy your furniture is for baby. You want to make sure these things are safe, but you also want to make sure they are going to stay put. For the most part, the items in your baby bedroom that you want to worry about are any bookcases and dressers. These are often top heavy, and these are also items that toddlers love to climb. Many are hurt each year because these items fall over onto the baby. Secure them to the wall with supplies you can find at your home improvement store or online. Also think about doing the same for like items in other rooms of your home that your baby is going to frequent.

Babies and toddlers die each year because they were strangled by the cords hanging down from window blinds. If you have these in your baby bedroom, or anywhere else in the house, you have to make sure there is no way baby can get the cord around their little neck. Some come with looped drawstrings. Don't buy those, or if you have them, cut the loop at the bottom. Leave both ends free and secure them above the blind if at all possible. Make sure there is no way baby can reach them and you should be okay. Double and triple check to make sure.

Examine the floors in all rooms of your home, including your baby bedroom. If you have hardwood floors, you want to be sure they are all smooth and safe. While falling and getting wood splinters from such floors may not be deadly, it can be very painful for your baby (and you) and you don't want them to go through it. Redo bad flooring in the baby bedroom and anywhere else in the house where you find problems. Air out new carpets before you lay them down to all chemicals to dissipate.

Are you still not sure if your baby bedroom is safe? There is one simple thing that you should do. Get down on your hands and knees and look around as if you were your baby crawling through his or her baby bedroom for the very first time. What do you see? What catches your eye? Have you spotted anything else that you should fix? Usually putting yourself at baby eye level helps you discover things that may be a problem in the future. You may spot many problems like outlets, cords, choking hazards, and other unsecured items that you would not have seen otherwise.Baby Bibs

One of the most common gifts you may get when you have a baby shower would be baby bibs. These are something used by almost all parents, and they can be used for quite some time before your baby outgrows them. Bibs are going to be used longer than bottles, bouncy chairs, and even changing tables. Bibs are inexpensive and even come in a disposable variety. These are useful for many things and easy to care for if you just take a few moments to make sure stains do not set in after feeding.

Newborn babies may have a need for baby bibs when they are eating from the breast or from the bottle. Some parents put them on, but others lay them on baby as a readily available wipe for when they dribble while eating. Infants should never sleep with baby bibs on, as it can cause a choking or strangulation hazard when baby is asleep. Since so many newborns fall asleep after feedings, parents chance waking them to remove the bib. This is why they never really put it on them during early feedings.

As baby gets older, they may stay awake longer after they eat, making it much easier for parents to remove baby bibs once they are done eating. Around the same time, baby may be starting on solid foods, which usually include rice and oatmeal cereal along with early fruits and vegetables. Baby bibs are going to be most useful at this time. These bibs are going to be messy once you are done. Use them to get most food off of baby, but use soft wipes for the rest as to not irritate baby's skin. Give them a rinse right away to remove foods that may stain. Your bibs will look good much longer if you do.

Baby bibs are very useful when your baby is teething. Teething usually brings on a lot of drooling. Your baby can soak through many outfits if you do not have a bib on them to catch what is coming out of their mouths. This also allows the drool to be soaked up before it has a chance to sit on the chin for too long, which can very easily lead to rash on the sensitive skin of your baby. Just remember to take these baby bibs off before nap or bedtime, as they are still a strangulation hazard for your baby at any age.

If you go out of the house a lot, or want to cut down on how much laundry you have to do for baby each week, you can always find disposable baby bibs to use. These are thrown away after each use or each feeding, depending on what you are using them for. The come in easy to transport packages and are relatively cheap to buy. They may not be a favorite choice if you are worried about how much trash you are putting landfills, but they are certainly a good option when you are on the go. Is Your Baby Bedroom Safe?

They may not be a favorite choice if you are worried about how much trash you are putting landfills, but they are certainly a good option when you are on the go.Keeping Up With Baby Books

When my son was born early, the first time I managed to leave the hospital, I went out and bought him a baby book. I knew the first months of his life would be spent in the hospital, which is not the normal beginning to life we all expect our children will have. I did not want to forget a moment of what was going on, even if much of it was painful at first. Baby books are a treasure to hand to your children one day, and one of the few paper type of books people still use. Photos and blogs are digital, but a baby book is something you can still hold in your hands.

Baby books are great ways to record everything that you want to remember for the first five years of your baby's life. For the most part, you will record the most information during their first two years. They fit everything imaginable in these books. You may find that some of the pages are not things you think you need to remember. For most parents, recording each and every routine appointment with the doctor is not necessary. Some will record the first few teeth, but find that recording the rest really serves no purpose. Most baby books include these entries just in case you want to use them.

Baby books often have room for some photos, but not a lot. These photos are usually for things that are traditionally photographed. Your baby books may have room for the first picture taken after birth, first bath, first tooth, first smile, first step, and a few other moments that you will want to remember forever. It is often a good idea to get a scrapbook or other photo album to go with your baby book so that you can keep all the photos you take in once place.

Most of the baby books that you can buy are going to have spaces for birth announcements or certificates. You may not want to keep the original and legal versions of birth certificates and other items. Most hospitals give you keepsake versions, so put those in your baby books. The originals should be put away for safe keeping. The first curls cut off at a first haircut are great for your baby books, as well as small items that can lay relatively flat. Look for books that are made with acid free paper and use scrap-booking tape to keep the book nice as long as possible.

If you have a premature baby, most baby books will work just fine, but you may find it hard to record all of the things that happen in the NICU. Babies first haircut may be because of a medical procedure, and you may not hold your baby right away. This is something you may not find room for in ordinary baby books. Look online for a few different books made just to record the birth, early months, and then first five or six years of a premature baby's life.

Tips for dating women

Whether you're new to the dating scene, or get back to it after a break, the idea Tips for dating women

Whether you're new to the dating scene, or get back to it after a break, the idea of dating women can be daunting for some. While the male psyche seems to be quite straight forward and simple, and what you see is what you get, women can be a different story altogether. So how exactly are you meant to go about getting on the good side of these complex creatures? Fortunately, we've done all the hard work for you. Below you'll find some valuable tips for dating women.

One important tip for dating women is treat them as people. This sounds silly and obvious, but you'd be surprised by how many men fail to do this. Don't put women up on a pedestal, and certainly don't look down on them. Avoid seeing women as objects, and particularly simply objects of desire! Rather, allow yourself to appreciate women as complex, intelligent people who have an array of interests, hobbies, and personality traits. Treating women as you'd like to be treated yourself will make you a whole lot more appealing, and will no doubt increase your confidence, too.

Another thing to think about when dating women is to take their needs into account. Make sure you listen to her when she tells you what she's interested in, or even more importantly, what she's not. Ensure that you don't arrange any dates or even a whole relationship around your own personal needs. You need to make sure that you can compromise. Yes, even if this means that you end up seeing a movie that you don't like, or that you end up going out on a Thursday night because it fits her schedule better. Show that you can listen to her and appreciate her needs, and you'll be a step ahead of many others on the dating scene.

One major problem that men can easily avoid is the notion of appreciation. While men don't tend to notice things like new outfits and new hairstyles, chances are that if a woman has had her hair styled differently, she'd like you to let you know that you like it. When dating women, it's important to let them know that you appreciate them, and the effort that they put into your fledgling relationship. So take the time to let her know that she looks beautiful, or to make a phone call to ask how she's doing. All of these little things can mean a lot to a woman, who may need reassurance that you appreciate her for who she is.

By being confident, courteous, and appreciative when dating women, you'll have a much better likelihood of seeing a relationship blossom into something special. Keep these tips in mind when things are starting out, and as they're getting serious, and you'll be on the way to a happy relationship.
Rescue Your Credit with Debt and Bill Consolidation

The number one financial crisis in this country has nothing to do with the national debt, hedge funds or the stock market. Ask most people what problems they are facing, and they'll tell you it has something to do with their own personal debt. Bills can easily pile up, and in an era of skyrocketing unemployment, it may become more and more difficult to pay off your debts. Fortunately, there are options available. Debt and bill consolidation is one of those options.

What is debt and bill consolidation? Debt and bill consolidation is a potential solution to those bills that never seem to stop coming in. If you have a significant amount of credit card debt, meaning more than $10,000, this is something you should consider. When your credit card debt comes from multiple sources, being late on even one payment for one card can result in the interest rates on all of your cards increasing exponentially, only increasing your overall debt. Combine this with a car payment or mortgage payment, and it's very easy for things to spiral out of control.

This is where debt and bill consolidation comes into play. If the situation described above is something you're facing today, you should consider contacting a debt and bill consolidation company. These firms will contact the companies and people you owe money to, and negotiate a new payment schedule and interest rate for you. What this does is combine all of your debts into one monthly payment. With so many people today declaring bankruptcy or defaulting on loans, most of these creditors are more than willing to work with the debt and bill consolidation companies because it means a better chance of getting paid back.

The nice thing about using debt and bill consolidation is that the firms you work with don't stop at combining all of your payments. Many of these companies offer financial advice, as well. They will provide all kinds of educational materials about setting a budget and sticking to it, as well as tactics for saving money. This kind of information can be truly useful as you attempt to put your problems with debt behind you, and move on to a more financially secure future.

In summary, personal debt has become a large problem for Americans, but it doesn't have to be a financial death sentence. Debt and bill consolidation is a wonderful option for those who have a large amount of personal debt. It also provides the added benefit of financial advice. If personal debt is having a negative impact on your life, consider pursuing debt and bill consolidation yourself.

Finding good debt consolidation advice

If you're like most Americans, you're carrying a substantial debt burden. According to various online sources, Americans are carrying nearly one trillion dollars worth of credit card debt. That's over three thousand dollars for every man, woman and child in the country that's owed to credit card companies.

It didn't used to be like this. Credit was something offered to a select few, and never in great amounts, until the baby boomers began running the show. And by that I mean voting Ronald Reagan into office. People might fancy him to have been "The Great Communicator," but in actuality he was really the great spendthrift. Under Reagan our national debt ballooned from thirty three point four percent of our gross domestic product to fifty five point nine percent. In raw numbers, our debt went from three hundred eight billion, nine hundred million dollars to nine hundred nine billion dollars. Old Ronnie was so busy taking his afternoon naps that he forgot to mind the checkbook.

So now America, and most Americans, needs good debt consolidation advice. And good debt consolidation advice is hard to come by, since people who offer debt consolidation advice tend to be selling something rather than working pro bono. So don't run out and buy the first line you see - instead, do some research, take your time, and avoid acting impulsively.

In fact, we'll make that step one: Take your time and do research. Chances are you've accrued your debt over a length of years, and it'll take years to undo the mess you've found yourself in now. Due diligence is what's called for, not rash impulse.

Step two is figuring out where, exactly, your debt is. Is it student loan debt? Is it a mortgage? Is it credit card debt? Identifying that will help you determine your next course of action, which is...

Step three: Pay off your high interest debts first. This means, most likely, credit card debt. For decades credit card companies have operated without restriction, have been allowed to hike interest rates at the drop of a hat, and have basically fleeced the American consumer. If you're carrying credit card debt, that's what you need to pay down first.

After that you can concentrate on other debt loads. Once you start taking control of your debt, you'll feel empowered and be able to advance your economic life with more confidence.

Tips for dating women

Whether you’re new to the dating scene, or get back to it after a break, the idea of dating women can be daunting for some. While the male psyche seems to be quite straight forward and simple, and what you see is what you get, women can be a different story altogether. So how exactly are you meant to go about getting on the good side of these complex creatures? Fortunately, we’ve done all the hard work for you. Below you’ll find some valuable tips for dating women.

One important tip for dating women is treat them as people. This sounds silly and obvious, but you’d be surprised by how many men fail to do this. Don’t put women up on a pedestal, and certainly don’t look down on them. Avoid seeing women as objects, and particularly simply objects of desire! Rather, allow yourself to appreciate women as complex, intelligent people who have an array of interests, hobbies, and personality traits. Treating women as you’d like to be treated yourself will make you a whole lot more appealing, and will no doubt increase your confidence, too.

Another thing to think about when dating women is to take their needs into account. Make sure you listen to her when she tells you what she’s interested in, or even more importantly, what she’s not. Ensure that you don’t arrange any dates or even a whole relationship around your own personal needs. You need to make sure that you can compromise. Yes, even if this means that you end up seeing a movie that you don’t like, or that you end up going out on a Thursday night because it fits her schedule better. Show that you can listen to her and appreciate her needs, and you’ll be a step ahead of many others on the dating scene.

One major problem that men can easily avoid is the notion of appreciation. While men don’t tend to notice things like new outfits and new hairstyles, chances are that if a woman has had her hair styled differently, she’d like you to let you know that you like it. When dating women, it’s important to let them know that you appreciate them, and the effort that they put into your fledgling relationship. So take the time to let her know that she looks beautiful, or to make a phone call to ask how she’s doing. All of these little things can mean a lot to a woman, who may need reassurance that you appreciate her for who she is.

By being confident, courteous, and appreciative when dating women, you’ll have a much better likelihood of seeing a relationship blossom into something special. Keep these tips in mind when things are starting out, and as they’re getting serious, and you’ll be on the way to a happy relationship.
There are many different types of jobs available at most local or The Various Types of Jobs Available at Ad Agencies

There are many different types of jobs available at most local or national ad agencies. Depending on the size of the agency you can expect to see jobs like Receptionist, Account Executive, Account Administrator, Administrative Clerks, Human Resource Specialists, Human Resource Administrator, Copywriter, Art Director, Graphic Designer, Typographer, Creative Director, Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operations Officer, President, Accountant, Chief Financial Officer, and a few others.

Discounting the very top position of CEO, the best way for a young person straight out of college to get a position is to prepare their resume or portfolio and knock on the door. Many of these ad agencies do not advertise for jobs so it is best if you either call ahead to find out what job openings there are or look in their websites to see if there are any jobs posted. Most agencies these days have extensive websites with a job posting board of some kind or other. Others may want you to apply online by filling out an application there.

Another way to get into an entry-level position at ad agencies is to go to a recruiter or job placement agency. Usually they will charge you a small commission if you are hired but sometimes they just charge the company you are hired by. Some of these agencies only hire for temp work but that is also a good way to get a foot in the door. Remember, these ad agencies are where everyone wants to work so they have no problem getting people to apply. You need to try many different avenues in order to land a job sometimes. Be tenacious and one great way is to land a temp job.

Temps can get noticed by doing great work and not acting like a temp. Go the extra mile, work longer hours; these are the things that will get you noticed. If you are a Graphic Designer, you can go to one of the placement agencies that cater to creative talent. You can find these by doing an online search for creative job placement agencies.

Getting regular jobs at ad agencies can be the most exciting and rewarding thing you have ever done. These jobs can lead to a very satisfying and lucrative career in advertising or graphic design. If you are good at finance or accounting, ad agencies offer several unique positions for your talents. Since they are always billing clients for hours worked and for commercials, signage, collateral and other products that they create, the ad agencies are always on the lookout for accounting types who can serve in that capacity.

Be consistent in your job search and eventually you will be rewarded with a great job.
Starting an Adsense Website Was a Very Good Decision

I recently decided to start a Google Adsense website for a community that has a thriving high school and youth sports scene, and I am already reaping the rewards.

The situation was that the newspaper group for which I wrote had stopped publishing in this community a few months ago, and a lot of the sports teams were getting hardly any coverage by the local newspapers that are supposed to cover them. I have all kinds of connections with coaches and former players in the city, so I decided to move in.

I started an Adsense website devoted to high school and youth sports, and began contacting coaches and players for stories to put on the site. The impact that it made in the community was almost immediate, and with Adsense, it started to pay, too.

I wrote two or three stories a day on the different sports teams, and pretty soon, it was as if the site was taking care of itself. People were submitting story ideas and write ups to me that I would edit or could write in a matter of 10 or 15 minutes, and as time went by, the Adsense clicks really started to pick up.

Within the first three weeks of its existence, the Adsense website had already reached 2,000 page views and made more than $35 on Adsense clicks. As the site continued to grow, I had more and more companies offer to advertise on my site, which just perpetuated the cycle of growth.

The funny thing about it is that I really have not tried to sell any ads locally at this point. I am not able make living off of the Adsense clicks at this point, but I am very encouraged by the amount of income that I have generated in a relatively short time period.

I have also found that it is not just a great way to make good money, but having an Adsense website is a lot of fun. I am providing information about a subject that I really enjoy, and it is always a kick to check the website to see how many page views and ad clicks it has had in a day.

Starting an Adsense website was a very good way for me to supplement my income. I did have what seemed to be a perfect storm of opportunity in the sense that I had all kinds of contacts, had knowledge of how to run a website and was covering a community that does not have a newspaper. I really do believe, however, that it just comes down to finding your own niche.

An Exciting Adventure Vacation is Just a Click Away

What level of adventure vacation is right for you? You need to ask yourself this question before booking your travel plans. What constitutes an adventure vacation for one person may be a lot more than another can handle. You need to take into consideration your age and any physical limitations you may have before embarking on a rigorous adventure vacation.

When most people think of an adventure vacation they think of a safari in Africa. There are many different types of safaris and even luxury safaris, which sort of cuts down on the adventure part. Many tour operators run guided tours and safaris through game reserves in Africa. Kenya is one of the most popular countries to go to and you get to go through Masai Mara National Reserve in Land Rovers, clicking away with your digital camera. You will see lions, leopards, buffaloes, elephants, and rhinos as they trek from the Serengeti through the massive park.

Alaska is a great destination for an adventure vacation and there are several ways to go. You can travel by rail if you want (www.alaskarailtours.com) or fly over the Denali in a private plane, spotting polar bears from the air (www.alaskadenalitours.com). The weather can change drastically from day to night to day so bring lots of clothing that you can layer on and peel off in a hurry. The wildlife is abundant and you will see caribou, wolves, bears, and eagles all living in their natural habitats.

There are several Central America countries that offer adventure vacation packages. Most people go to U.S. friendly countries such as Panama, Belize, or Costa Rica, but you can also find great low-cost adventure vacation packages in Nicaragua. An adventure vacation in any of these beautiful countries usually includes some time spent in the natural rain forests. You can kayak through lush rivers, zip line through the jungle canopy, or hike through ages-old forests. All of these countries also offer dive adventure vacations where you can skin dive onto pristine reefs and underwater caves. Sport fishing is abundant on the coast and you can spend the day wrestling giant marlin or swordfish.

In Costa Rica there is one tour guide that takes you on a river boat trip then gets out and feeds giant crocodiles by hand near the Tarcoles Bridge, also known as the Crocodile Bridge because of the hundreds of crocs that swim there. This crazy adventure tour guide takes raw chicken parts out of a bucket and actually tosses them into the mouths of wild crocodiles that are at least fifteen feet long.

If your budget allows and you are fit enough, you can do some mountain climbing in the Swiss Alps or the Himalayas. For these types of adventure vacations you really need to be prepared and take some mountain climbing classes. If this does sound right for you then you will be amazed by the total experience of attempting something that relatively few people have tried.

A real adventure vacation should involve some risk or else it is just another vacation.

My Fear of Heights Was Hard to Break

I am not exactly sure when my fear of heights first started, but My Fear of Heights Was Hard to Break

I am not exactly sure when my fear of heights first started, but I always remember having it. When I was a kindergarten student, playing on the jungle gym, I would always have to cautiously climb down the steps to get off of it because I was to scared to take the fireman's pole, and sometimes even the slide.

Looking back on my early childhood, I cannot remember a specific incident that sparked my fear of heights. I don't think that I ever fell, and quite the contrary, my mother said I used to climb everything when I was three and four years old. I just know that once I got to school, it was hard for me to climb the stairs up to the school and look down without getting woozy.

This carried on into my teen years, and when we made a trip to Louisiana, I tried to go up into the state capital building in Baton Rouge. I am not sure how many stories tall it was, but it couldn't have been more than 10, but when I tried to walk out onto a balcony and look at the city, my legs were trembling and I could hardly catch my breath.

I think I finally realized that my fear of heights was out of control when I went to our local opera house when I was in my 20s. We were taking a tour of the facilities when I looked out from a second-story window and became dizzy.

I decided that I had reached a point where it was getting in the way of my everyday life, so I started to work on the issue. The first thing I did was determine how high off the ground I had to be to feel uncomfortable, so I went to my elementary school and climbed up the steps again, and this time, I did not feel any fear.

I then traveled to a friend's house who has a deck, and stood on that. I started feeling anxious and realized that this would be a good starting point to confront my fear of heights. I made myself stand on the deck and look down for 30 seconds. It was very difficult, and I found myself clutching the rails as I went back into the house.

I went back once every other day until I could walk out there without any problems, and then I found something just a bit higher to climb. It took me a little over a year to conquer my fear of heights, but I did it. My family and I made a trip to the Grand Canyon a few years ago, and I was fine.

I had read about a type of therapy for phobias called systematic desensitization, where you gradually introduce whatever sets off your fear in small doses until you finally don't feel any fear. I am not sure if I went about it the right way from a clinical standpoint, but I was able to overcome my fear of heights.
Fighting terrorism in the new decade

It's a new decade, and that means it's a new era in the war on terrorism. And when fighting terrorism, it's important to know that if you cut the head off of a serpent, that's the best way to kill the whole thing.

President Obama seems to understand that better than his predecessor, President George W. Bush. While Bush like to talk tough and pretend he was a rough and rugged cowboy who'd shoot down anyone who got in his way, the reality is that he backed off of fighting terrorism in order to invade Iraq, which was a sovereign nation unalighned with any terrorist movement at the time.

President Obama hasn't made the same mistakes when fighting terrorism, and the results have been positive because of that. The most positive part has been the capture of Mullah Abdul Kabir, who was the number two leader of the Taliban and a member of their leadership council. Even more importantly, Kabir was considered the military mastermind of the Taliban and had successfully stymied the NATO forces deployed to destroy the Taliban in the years under President Bush.

What changed under President Obama was the United state's committment to, metaphorically, cutting the head off of the serpent. And they were able to do so with the help of the Pakistani intelligence agency, in itself a huge step in fighting terrorism worldwide.

Pakistand had long been considered a safe haven for Taliban members because of that country's political unwillingness to take on members of the radical Islamist movement for fear of alienating citizens of their own country and looking like pawns of the west. The west, especially under Bush, was what radical islamists called a "useful gollem" - that is, they could frighten the people of muslim countries into acting against their own best interest by invoking the specter of interference or invasion from the western powers.

By taking a more conciliatory and mature tone, the United States under Obama has crushed much of that rhetoric, and as a result fighting terrorism has become easier and more productive, especially in places like Pakistan and Afghanistan.

So where does the United States and the fight against terrorism go from here? Well, with the recent invasion of Marjah - a taliban stronghold - and the capture of Kabir, it seems clear that fighting terrorism now means going after the head of the serpent. With our newfound vigor and competencce, that can only mean good things for the people of the world. My Fear of Heights Was Hard to Break

With the April 15 deadline bearing down hard on you, what would it be like to just turn around and skip it? You wouldn't be alone you know - more than 10 million people do it every year, and it especially goes down well with the IRS if you have a very complex tax return to file. For instance, if you happen to be one of those people converting their IRA to the tax-free Roth IRA , you could certainly appreciate it if the IRS cut you a little slack getting all those procedures in place. And the same goes for people who have just bought a house, but now wish to be allowed to wait before they file taxes so that they can take advantage of federal tax credits for home buyers.

The whole time extension deal was simplified and made approachable just a couple of years ago. And now, all taxpayers can, if they want, fill out a Form 4868 by April 15, and can be granted an extension of six months. Of course as you must've sensed, things can't be that easy. You do gain a $8000 tax break on an extension, but that is not an extension granted so you can relax another six months. Whatever it is that you believe you will need to pay given a six-month extension, you do have to file taxes to that effect. And if you discover that you underpaid, they can either charge you interest, or fine you.

It does seem rather unbelievable, but what if you paid more than you needed to have? Of course, if they pay you interest, it couldn't be too shabby; or rather, they pay you interest when they come around to it a month and a half on, after you file your overpaid return. What do the experts say is the best thing to do? Popular opinion among expert circles says that filing for an extension gives you the most wiggle room, and the best benefits, even if it means getting a refund takes that much longer. It is preferable considering the other choice: filing right on time on April 15, and then making changes in an amended filing afterwards. An amended return is actually an invitation to be audited. It doesn't hurt anybody waiting until they are ready with all the necessary documents, before they file.

The government just extended the law in November, that people buying their first home will get an $8000 tax break through this year as well, and if you are buying your second or third home, you get $6500. You get your tax break, by putting this back in on your tax return. If the home purchase deal goes through only by 1 July though, you can get an extension. How about those who are getting their Roth IRA conversions? Getting extensions works for them too. Here is a little tip on how experienced investors go about it. Experienced investors go and set up more than one Roth conversion account first thing in January, and open a separate account for each kind of asset. They don't wait until October 15 the year after to see how their investments worked out. If any of those conversions didn't do so well, they'll just go and reverse them. Think about it - if you invest something worth $40,000 in a Roth, and before your time is up, it's worth no more than $20,000 - wouldn't you be better off reversing it, instead of paying taxes on the $40,000?

There is however, one kind of taxpayer who probably shouldn't wait too long on an extension. It is people who have offshore accounts. If you don't do that by the end of June, the IRS usually throws a fit.

Crib Mattress Safety

One of the best parts of pregnancy is buying all that you will need to fill your nursery Crib Mattress Safety

One of the best parts of pregnancy is buying all that you will need to fill your nursery for your new baby. You want everything to be perfect, but also appealing to the eye. Safety is something you must think about as you shop, and also as you put together your baby's new room. If you have noticed, many of the big recalls that come up are for baby products. This is in part because there are so many tiny things that can harm a baby. They are helpless, so we rely on quality products to work as intended to keep a baby safe. This means putting thought into your crib mattress before you buy and after you bring it home.

For the most parts, all cribs are built the same and should all take the same size crib mattress. There are exceptions, of course, as there are round and oval cribs as well as special sized cribs you can buy. However, the standard crib should take a standard crib mattress safely. You can never take that for granted however, so make sure you read what comes with your crib to be sure you get the exact right size for the mattress. Any ill fitting mattress is dangerous.

The crib mattress you buy should not only fit just right into the crib, it should also be firm. SIDS or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome is something all parents have to think about when buying a mattress. A soft mattress is not a good idea, though you probably won't come across many when shopping. The firmest mattress you can buy is the best for the safety of your baby. On top of that, you have to keep soft blankets and stuffed animals out of the crib. All that should be in there is a well clothed child, the crib mattress, and a fitted sheet that is an exact fit as well.

Before you can lay your newborn on any crib mattress, it is a good idea to air it out. Though many are made with natural materials that are okay for any baby, you should never assume that is the case. Buy the mattress early, and allow it to air out for a month before you put it into the crib. This allows any chemicals that may be caught in the crib mattress to be released into the air. This is a safety issue, but not usually a serious one. You don't want to take the chance though, so make sure you air it out just to be on the safe side.

A good crib mattress can be ruined by a baby that wets through. You can find sheets that have water resistant materials, but you should air them out and wash them before you use them. Make sure they too fit securely and snuggly around the crib mattress that you have purchased. If your sheets were to come loose, you have a safety hazard that can harm your baby. As long as materials are clean and safe, there is not a gap between the mattress and crib for body parts to fall into, and there are no loose items in the crib, you can feel as if you have done all you can to see your baby safely through the night.Crime Scene Investigation Degree Programs and Jobs

Ever since the television series CSI started airing in 2000, interest in forensic science has gone through the roof. I guess when people had a chance to see what crime scene investigation actually entailed, they realized that it seemed like a very cool, intellectually challenging job. Colleges and universities across the country started adding more and more forensic science courses, and careers in that field are really taking off. Here's how to get your foot in the door if you're interested in becoming a real-life Gil Grissom or Horatio Caine.

The first thing you have to do in order to get a crime scene investigation job is obtain the proper qualifications. Usually this means years and years of direct experience with forensic science, or else a degree in a related field. CSI agents must have a strong background in science, so your course schedule should be filled with classes like chemistry and physics, as well as a healthy dose of electives such as anatomy, pathology, and toxicology. You'll also load up on criminology classes to get a basic understanding of how law enforcement officials do their jobs.

Once you have the required degree or experience, you can begin your search for crime scene investigation jobs. Most police departments in large metropolitan areas need to have a lot of CSI agents on staff, so you'll have a better chance of finding an opening in a big city. Pay scales vary depending on experience and location, but salaries tend to be good for field agents (between $30 and $40 per hour) and excellent for specialists (more than $100,000 for toxicologists). There usually isn't a lot of room for promotion beyond team leader or shift supervisor, but people who get into crime scene investigation tend to do so for the actual investigating and not for the chance to sit behind a desk and push papers around.

Like any law enforcement position, you generally need to have a very clean record when applying for crime scene investigation work. If you've had felony convictions, cannot pass a drug test, or have other major issues that will pop up during a background check, then in all likelihood you will not be offered a position as a CSI. The competition for such jobs is far too fierce for police departments to accept borderline candidates. Only the cream of the crop will get to investigate the scenes of violent crimes.

A career in crime scene investigation can be extremely rewarding and fulfilling. It provides the kind of intellectual challenge that few other jobs can offer on a daily basis, and is something you can be proud of doing. If this is the direction you want to go in your life, start looking into forensic science degrees today and take the first step toward achieving your dream! Crib Mattress Safety

As far as vacation destinations go, you can't do much better than the Hawaiian Islands. They're beautiful, exotic, and romantic -- and they're also right here in the United States, which means you don't have to mess around with passports, travel visas, or currency exchanges. Most people opt to fly to the island of their choice, but for a more complete holiday experience, I recommend taking a cruise to Hawaii.

Since Hawaiian cruises are so popular with vacationers, there are usually a multitude of different packages and departure cities to choose from. This allows you to tailor your trip as much as possible, ensuring that you'll have the vacation of a lifetime. And with various deals and bargains from online travel agencies, booking your cruise to Hawaii won't cost your life savings to embark on this fabulous journey.

Not surprisingly, the most common departure cities for a cruise to Hawaii are on the West Coast. These include Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco in California, as well as Seattle up in Washington State. Our friends in the Great White North can get in on the action too, as Vancouver is another popular departure point for a cruise to Hawaii. Most cruises from these places last anywhere from 10-12 days, which is the perfect amount of time to spend on a ship.

Since there aren't really any ports of call between the departure city and the destination, your cruise to Hawaii won't include any stops along the way. Instead, the ship will likely visit a bunch of different places once you get to the islands, thereby giving passengers a far richer Hawaiian experience than people that stay in one location during their entire trip. So instead of just visiting Maui or just visiting Honolulu, the ship will also take you to Kauai and the Big Island as well.

Of course, you won't be stuck on the ship the whole time, so be prepared to enjoy a bunch of typical island activities while you're there. These include snorkeling in the clearest water you've ever seen, sunning yourself on pristine beaches, taking horseback rides along the amazing coastline, surfing the world-famous Hawaiian waves, experiencing an authentic luau, hiking through rainforests, and enjoying the nightlife at trendy clubs. While these activities are not included in the price of your vacation package, they are well worth paying extra for. After all, you're taking a cruise to Hawaii to live it up, not pinch pennies, right?

If you're ready for an adventure you'll never forget, then it's time to book your cruise to Hawaii today. Check out one of the major travel websites on the internet to compare prices and packages, choose one that fits your schedule, and then go pack your swimsuit and snorkel!

colitis disease and treatment

The first thing to understand about colitis disease is that it's a disease of your gastrointestinal system. colitis disease and treatment

The first thing to understand about colitis disease is that it's a disease of your gastrointestinal system. In other words, it's a disease that's at least partially caused by - or at least effected by - what you eat. If you're eating crappy food, you're more likely to suffer from colitis disease. That's a simple fact, and it's one that you're best understanding right off the bat.

Technically, colitis disease is an inflammation of the colon. The colon is the very final part of the digestive system in humans. It's what absorbs water and salt for solid waste (feces) before they're evacuated from your body. Another name for the colon is the large intestine. But unlike its neighbor the small intestine, the colon doesn't actually absorb nutrients from the food you eat.

The number on cause of colitis disease in humans is poor blood supply to the colon. This is called ischemic colitis disease, and it is due to a narrowing of the arteries that carry blood to the organ. Think of it as being analogous to heart disease. Everyone knows that heart disease is caused by plaque build-up in the arteries that carry blood to the heart. Starve the organ of blood, and it suffers, eventually leading to cardiac arrest.

The same thing can happen to your colon if you have full blown colitis disease. So you can see why diet and exercise are an important part of avoiding colitis disease. If you're eating right and exercising, you're much, much less likely to suffer from atherlosclerosis (the scientific name for the narrowing of the arteries) and therefore much more likely to maintain a proper blood supply to the colon. Paradoxically, if you're suffering from this type of colitis disease, you will have bloody bowel movements.

There are other causes for colitis disease, however. A common one is either bacterial or viral infaction, which causes infectious colitis disease. All the food-born illnesses you've heard of are the cuprits, from E. Coli to Salmonella to good, old fashioned food poisoning. With infectious colitis disease, you will tend not to have bloody stools but instead have constant diarrhea. In either instance, you need to keep well hydrated, since colitis can sap your body of its water stores.

So in short, just make sure that the food you eat is clean in order to avoid infections, and healthy in order to keep your circulatory system working at top notch efficiency. These are the best ways to avoid colitis.computer virus removal

If you're like most people, at one point or another in your computer's life you've picked up a virus. And like most people, you probably lack the expertise to remove said virus, making computer virus removal about as big a reach as, say, fixing your transmission or tailoring a suit. It's just a skillset that's beyond most of us lay people.

Unfortunately, going to a professional for computer virus removal is a time consuming and often expensive solution. Yes, if you go to a profession, you can be sure that your computer virus removal is complete and thorough. But who wants to spend anywhere from fifty to two hundred fifty dollars to get rid of one lousy program? Yes, the laws of supply and demand are at work, but so is the law of common sense.

This is where the internet can be your friend. All it takes is some time, diligence and legwork, and you can master the basics of computer virus removal by using free software and services provided by some fo the largest, most trusted names in the business. Everyone from microsoft to google to oracle offers software designed for computer virus removal, and if you have the patience to give them a thorough read-through, you'll be able to figure out which is the best one for you.

Take Microsoft's malicious software removal tool (a "virus" is actually just malicious software, yeah, it might as well be called Microsoft's computer virus removal tool... but whatever).

It's designed to work on a number of Microsoft's operating systems, from Windows 2000 all the way through to their newest release, Windows 7. And the best part of Microsoft's computer virus removal tool is that it's free. You can download it directly from their site, install it and run it with minimal difficulty.

Once you've downloaded it, it will run in the background, scanning your computer for viruses - including Blaster, Sasser, and Mydoom, three of the most prevalent and malicious computer viruses - and then removes them. But before it removes them, it will offer you a report detailing what virus was found and where.

When that report comes up, you should look at it and then Google the results. You'll be able to find chatrooms and bulletin boards dedicated to talking about the virus, how to defeat it and how to prevent yourself from getting it again. colitis disease and treatment

You'll be able to find chatrooms and bulletin boards dedicated to talking about the virus, how to defeat it and how to prevent yourself from getting it again.Ever Considered Moving your Banking Over to at the Credit Unions?

It's been happening in one household after another. Shortly after Thanksgiving, your bank sends you a notice that you have to pay about 20% on your credit card balances from now on. And people, sick of the abuse, wonder if there is a more democratic way to stay in touch with a modern financial life, than to sell your soul to the credit card companies. As it turns out, there is. It's a wonder more people aren't trying it out. They are called credit unions, and they will offer you a credit card at about 7%, with no balance transfer fee. If that's not enough for you, the feeling of going with the credit union is like a breath of fresh air to most people. They treat you better, they don't have those unfathomable and yet dependably unfair rules all over the place, and they are simple to deal with. People just figure - why the need to put yourself through the meat grinder that corporate banking is, when you can just go to one of the credit unions, and be a valued customer?

Take what happened to a good friend of mine in an Annapolis, Maryland. He had a couple of accounts with his bank, and they both had about $500 each. He thought he'd let them just lie there until he was ready to get a little work done around the house. But all of a sudden, without warning, the bank thought it was acceptable to just change its policies on how long they could wait before declaring an account inactive and start charging fees on it. It used to be that you could leave an account unused for several months before they would do that. When without warning they changed the waiting to one month, they just emptied both his accounts for fees, and then told him that he needed to bring in more money for what the $1000 did not cover. He managed to reason with the bank little bit and have them cut him some slack over the additional charges; but the $1000 was gone forever.

At the credit unions, sanity prevails. They charge a reasonable interest on credit cards, they don't charge you for use of the ATM, and you only pay any overdraft charges if you keep running into the red repeatedly. They have none of the double-dealing practice you see at many banks - the banks will only credit you for the check deposited, at the end of the day; on the other hand, they will charge your account for a withdrawal, as soon as it happens. That way, you stand a chance of running into the red for more often, and owing them penalties. They have none of this at the credit unions; and whatever you want, they just have to call the manager who sits in the next room. Typically, at these big corporate banks, they can't give you a paper clip without calling the head office.

All that is nice and comfy; but what is it that you lose when you move your allegiance to the credit unions? To begin with, they don't have that as many branches; and they don't stay open as long. And their websites don't really work well with accounting software. But all that is really insignificant, just because it gets you away from the fraudulent practices at the banks you have had to suffer for so long.

colitis disease and treatment

The first thing to understand about colitis disease is that it’s a disease of your gastrointestinal system. In other words, it’s a disease that’s at least partially caused by – or at least effected by – what you eat. If you’re eating crappy food, you’re more likely to suffer from colitis disease. That’s a simple fact, and it’s one that you’re best understanding right off the bat.

Technically, colitis disease is an inflammation of the colon. The colon is the very final part of the digestive system in humans. It’s what absorbs water and salt for solid waste (feces) before they’re evacuated from your body. Another name for the colon is the large intestine. But unlike its neighbor the small intestine, the colon doesn’t actually absorb nutrients from the food you eat.

If you’re eating right and exercising, you’re much, much less likely to suffer from atherlosclerosis (the scientific name for the narrowing of the arteries) and therefore much more likely to maintain a proper blood supply to the colon. Paradoxically, if you’re suffering from this type of colitis disease, you will have bloody bowel movements.

There are other causes for colitis disease, however. A common one is either bacterial or viral infaction, which causes infectious colitis disease. All the food-born illnesses you’ve heard of are the cuprits, from E.

As a newspaper reporter, I was assigned a I Have a Whole New Respect for Firefighters After Using Fire Fighting Equipment

As a newspaper reporter, I was assigned a story a few years back about a youth fire camp where kids could go and see how the firefighters trained and do some training exercises themselves, just like the firefighters.

I knew the guys at that particular fire department pretty well, because I had written a number of stories on them, and the fire chief invited me to come and try some of the exercises wearing bunker gear and using some of the fire fighting equipment. After having that opportunity, I can honestly say that I have a whole new respect for what firefighters have to do.

The fire chief started the day by discussing the fire fighting equipment and how it is used. He talked about some of the structural fires they had put out recently and how different pieces of equipment were used throughout the process. He discussed the important of fire hydrants, and told the kids that they should never be blocked or obstructed under any circumstances.

He then allowed the kids to tour the fire engine, both inside and out, and explained to them about all the various gadgets on the truck and how they are used. The kids were mesmerized, and quite frankly, I was, too. I had written my stories about the department itself, but had never learned so much about the use of fire fighting equipment.

The kids all got to do some of the training that the firefighters did on a weekly basis and were really just having a ball. Then, by some cruel twist of fate, the chief decided to invite me up to try on some of the bunker gear and to do a few of the training exercises.

Now, I'm a pretty big and strong guy. I was a wrestler in high school and thought that it really wouldn't be a problem for me. Then I put the bunker gear on and wondered what I had gotten myself into. It was heavy and hot, and I felt exhausted just standing there.

Then he started introducing me to some of the fire fighting equipment, and allowed me to hold onto the fire hose as it was being sprayed at about three quarters of its capacity. It felt like I was trying hold a wild bull in place, and some unfortunate spectators got a little bit wet, I am sorry to say.

After the whole ordeal was over, I told him that I would stick to writing about the fire department and he could keep fighting fires. He thought that was a very good idea.

It was a bit humbling for me to experience that situation, and sometimes I wish that I had been in a little bit better shape when I went to cover that story, but one thing is definitely for certain I have a lot more respect for firefighters after using their fire fighting equipment.
Your First Pregnancy

Pregnancy can be a lot like going on a vacation for the first time. You have planned for it, always knew you wanted to go, but you are not sure how it is going to be once you get there. Pregnancy is something that is different for every woman, and you won't know what to expect until you have gone through it for the first time. Even then, the second is not going to be exactly like the first. Your first pregnancy is going to be a time of anticipation and wonder, and also a voyage of discovery. You are going to be amazed at what your body can really do.

Your first pregnancy is going to probably start out like any other pregnancy. You are going to be sick and tired. Some do not get that sick and some have good energy, but most have some tendencies to be very tired and they feel sick to the stomach throughout much of the first trimester. You are going to see if you get sick every morning, if you just have a lingering nauseous feeling - or if you get severely sick or do not get sick at all. The most energetic people feel a bit sluggish, and those that were not very active to begin with my sleep a lot. You'll see where you fall in this equation very quickly.

Do you consider yourself to be in good health? You are going to find out how right or wrong you are about that during your first pregnancy. Any underlying medical conditions are going to be problems for you if they have yet to be diagnosed. Some of them can be serious, but you could also just find out that you might want to start doing some light, pregnancy safe workouts. You are going to feel your best during the second trimester of your first pregnancy, so if you have problems then, it may just get worse from then on.

The third trimester of your first pregnancy is when you are going to learn a lot about yourself. You are going to be anxious to have your baby in your arms, but you also may be enjoying a few things that you know you won't get to do after the baby comes. You may also experience back pain and other bodily aches that you never know you could endure, all the while understanding that this is what your body was designed to do. You will be cleaning and putting together your nursery while preparing in other ways for your baby to come. You may also be fearing the pain of labor.

The end of your first pregnancy is when you are really going to be changed forever. This is when you find out what you are capable of as you bring a new life into the world. This will be a time of wonder and some pain, but a discovery of your own strength more than anything else. It is a time you will never forget. While you are in labor, you may think you'll never do it again, but by the time that baby is placed in your arms, you may already be thinking that your first pregnancy will definitely not be your last. The average American diet consists of processed fast foods and starchy things like French fries, pasta, and cheeseburgers. No wonder we are the most overweight country in the world and getting bigger by the minute. Adult and childhood obesity are rampant in the U.S. and account for more health problems than all other factors combined. Obesity causes or is linked directly to hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure, arthritis, bone problems, and many other ailments. We need to get off our collective rear ends and start working on fitness and weight loss as parts of our daily lives, not just when we get too heavy to fit into our jeans.

It is not as difficult as it first seems to achieve total fitness and weight loss if you approach it from a holistic point of view. You need to see the big picture and part of that is to examine how being overweight affects our daily lives. Think about it, what could you accomplish if you were at your ideal weight today? How would you life change if you could fit into that size four dress and feel confident every time you went out for a job interview or to meet with clients? If you were not so heavy would your knees, hips and back hurt so much after every workout or could you be pain free and consequently run more miles (or even one) and lose weight even faster? Staying fit or getting in shape is not easy and no one is claiming to have a panacea but you can definitely get a kick start if you follow some easy suggestions.

The first thing you need to do is to write down everything that you eat all day. Fitness and weight loss experts agree that documenting your daily caloric intake is vital to making your plan work. How can you know what to avoid if you dont know what you are putting into your mouth? Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers both emphasize this part of their program and give you little food diaries where you write down everything you eat during the day and also what kind of exercise you did that day. You can even write down your daily weight but I dont particularly recommend that part of it.

Many experts agree that looking at the scale every day can lead you to sabotage your fitness and weight loss goals. This is due to the fact that most weight loss occurs several days after one exercises and diets and not on the same day. If you weigh yourself after you work out you are really only seeing water weight loss and not fat weight loss. If you exercise several days in a row you will not see less water weight loss or sometimes none at all. This is discouraging and even more discouraging is when you diet and exercise and you still seem to gain a pound or two. That is the main reason to put away your scale for at least one week while you begin your fitness and weight loss program. This is the way that Jenny Craig does it and they weigh you on their accurate scales once a week when you come in for your weekly consultation and to buy the weeks worth of food.

Although Jenny Craig seems expensive and food costs can exceed $100 per week per person, it really saves you money. If you count up how much food you buy in an average week of going to the supermarket and eating out at restaurants you will find that you are actually spending a lot more on your own. Take the plunge. Sign up with Jenny Craig or Weight Watchers and begin that fitness and weight loss plan you have been meaning to start. You will thank yourself once you get to that ideal weight and everyone is giving you complimentary remarks.

The kids all got to do some of the training that the firefighters did on a weekly basis and were really just having a ball. Then, by some cruel twist of fate, the chief decided to invite me up to try on some of the bunker gear and to do a few of the training exercises.

Now, I’m a pretty big and strong guy. I was a wrestler in high school and thought that it really wouldn’t be a problem for me.

Pregnancy is something that is different for every woman, and you won’t know what to expect until you have gone through it for the first time.

You are going to see if you get sick every morning, if you just have a lingering nauseous feeling – or if you get severely sick or do not get sick at all. The most energetic people feel a bit sluggish, and those that were not very active to begin with my sleep a lot. You’ll see where you fall in this equation very quickly.

You are going to be anxious to have your baby in your arms, but you also may be enjoying a few things that you know you won’t get to do after the baby comes.

While you are in labor, you may think you’ll never do it again, but by the time that baby is placed in your arms, you may already be thinking that your first pregnancy will definitely not be your last.Total Fitness and Weight Loss

There are some advertising campaigns that we will never get out of our collective minds, Advertising Campaigns We Wont Soon Forget

There are some advertising campaigns that we will never get out of our collective minds, whether we want to or not. Who can forget that little old lady asking Wheres The Beef? I cant for the life of me remember what burger outfit was being pushed but that is the main problem with advertising in general. Advertising campaigns suffer from over-saturation of ads and television commercials on our public psyche. We tend to zone out when we see commercials because we are inundated with them on a daily, hourly, and minute by minute basis, three hundred and sixty five days a year, seven days a week.

But some commercials and advertising campaigns are hard to forget because they were so timely that they became part of the fabric of our lives and live on in the annals of pop culture. Many of you are too young to remember this unless you watched all the retro shows and commercials on Nick at Nite, but one song that I will never get out of my brain is Id Like to Teach the World to Sing which was the theme song for Coca-Cola back in the early 70s. The commercial featured hundreds of people on a scenic mountain top all singing together and holding hands. After the initial overwhelmingly positive response from focus groups and then the general worldwide public, Coke expanded the commercial and spun off several incarnations of it.

Sometimes these advertising campaigns make not only the product famous, but the actor who is hired to perform in them. Rodney Allen Rippy was just such a child star. I cant quite remember what he was selling. It was either Burger King or Beefaroni, not sure which, but he definitely hit the big time. Many future movie stars began their careers as actors on commercials.

Sometimes ad campaigns are effective through their use of bleak humor or ability to deliver a particularly dark message. That was the case with the anti-drug campaign from the 80s that said This is Your Brain. This is Your Brain on Drugs and showed a frying pan with an egg in it. That was some powerful metaphor and I am sure that more than one young person thought twice about using illegal drugs because of that. These types of PSAs, or Public Service Announcements can be very effective. Over the years there have been many of them, none more deliberate or crafty than the old Native American chief looking out over the polluted waters and shores of the Hudson and shedding a single tear.

Ad campaigns begin in the fertile imaginations of Creative Directors, Graphic Designers, Copywriters, and Advertising Executives around the world. We have them to thank for the proliferation of these mind-numbing, sixty second shows that seem to fade into oblivion so quickly.
What Constitutes Advertising Effectiveness?

Millions of dollars are spent each year by corporations around the world that try to outdo each other in sales and market presence. The most glaring example of this type of spending is with all of the ads that air during the Super Bowl when just one minute of airtime can cost upwards of three million dollars. These are crazy figures and many experts are not certain that the costs are justified and what kind of advertising effectiveness this enormous outlay of money is actually producing.

Advertising effectiveness should be measured in only one way and that is The Bottom Line. How many consumer dollars can the ad itself draw into the companys coffers at the end of the day. This is a very difficult thing to gauge however and there are entire companies built around just measuring these effects and how they impact the advertiser and the advertisers revenues.

Can advertising really make that much of a difference in profits? The answer is a resounding yes but in todays advertising saturated world only the very best ads stand out from the crowd. Gone are the days of catchy slogans such as Wheres the Beef? or I Cant Believe I Ate the Whole Thing. Todays slogans are more pedestrian such as Dr. Pepper with Just What the Doctor Ordered or So Misunderstood. Back in advertisings history Coca-Cola came out with the song Wed Like to Teach the World to Sing which became an iconic anthem and led to the We Are the World song and video from Michael Jackson.

Advertising effectiveness is not only measured in dollars and cents but also in brand identity. How many times have you seen a clever commercial but could not for the life of you remember what the product was? This is a common mistake and usually have to do with the big egos of the creative types at the ad agencies who push for their ideas to hit the air at all costs. Corporations have since wised up and you will rarely see an ad that does not prominently feature the product. This comes at the cost of creativity however and can create an ad that blends in with all the others. It is a fine line between displaying a product and putting an audience to sleep. We have all seen the very boring commercials that are put out there every day. Which one of us has not said I could come up with better ads than these. That is easy to say, but much harder to actually do.

When advertising effectiveness does work however it is a thing of beauty. Many brands have become iconic household names just from the power of great advertising. Agencies will continue to rack up the big bucks and corporations will continue to throw money at them in the hope of becoming the next Coke or Mac. One of todays most effective advertising campaigns is Are You a Mac or a PC? Of course, after seeing the ads, who would want to be a PC, even if that is what you are using?

Will Buying Insurance from other Companies Help us get More Affordable Health Insurance

So the Republicans have successfully put the kibosh on the health care plan. Not that they don't have any ideas of their own; whatever health care plan comes to pass, it is sure to have a lot of Republican inputs to it. One of their important suggestions in the whole debacle, is the idea that Americans should be able to buy affordable health insurance across states. Right now, the situation is that you can only buy insurance from an operator who is registered in your own state.

Actually, that is a particularly significant piece of Republican sentiment in the matter. The Democrats are actually taking the Republicans up on this idea, and you can fully expect that whatever health care bill passes, this should be a part of it. Actually, you heard a lot of this when Senator McCain was stumping for his presidency in 2008. Everyone now feels that turning the entire country into the single health insurance market, will only make things more competitive for the insurance companies, and bring prices down. If you live in Colorado, and you suddenly find that a small health insurance company in Pennsylvania is making an offer that your local corporations just cannot match. You could easily buy across state lines.

And they have a point. If your state government has no control over most of the insurance providers in your state, the government just can't exercise of its consumer protection laws anymore. The companies will just say, "Oh!, We're from out of state, so nice try". Actually, in effect, people could end up paying more expensive premiums. Affordable health insurance actually looks much more shaky under this plan, Not to mention more expensive. So how would this actually work?

The states will have to form new principles of how to control companies operating there from outside. They will just have to bring out new legislation to this effect. And they would also need to license their own insurance corporations, to deal outside of the state. Alternatively, the federal office that governs the healthcare issues of federal employees, could deal with out-of-state insurers. In fact, the federal government could apply a single law to all of them, and prohibitsthem from offering anything less than a high level of care.

But the thing is, more choice does not always mean cheaper costs. What if it just results in customers choosing the policies with the lowest price tag, and opting for the lowest cover? For most poor families, getting the lowest possible amount of cover could seem to be a really attractive option sometimes, until the day they fall ill. And what happens if there is a dispute? There are hundreds of thousands of disputes every year involving health insurance companies that deny claims for perfectly valid treatment options. If there is a dispute, subscribers may find themselves having to travel across state lines each year. Affordable health insurance, doesn't come from an excess of competition. It comes with a reasonable amount of time, and proactive government legislation.
